Skaw Mitts by Lesley Smith

This kit contains the pattern and yarn to knit the Skaw Mitts, they are knitted in the round from the bottom up. The thumb gore is constructed by increasing up one side of the hand as you knit. The hand begins and ends with 2 colour corrugated rib and the thumb is also finished with 2 colour rib. The pattern comes in two sizes: Ladies and Gents medium. The pattern is exactly the same for both sizes but the Gents is knit on a slightly larger needle. These are good if you like to have a small, portable project on the go and if you’d like to try a little bit of Fair-isle before jumping into a bigger project.

Elska by Ysolda Teague

A traditionally patterned Fair Isle hat in a less traditional slouchy shape. Shown inJamieson and Smith Heritage and Heritage Naturals a unique worsted spun Shetland wool which blocks into a fine, smooth fabric. The geometric stitch patterns were chosen to work well with the crisp stitch definition of the yarn. The pattern is given in three sizes, due to the 30 stitch pattern repeat the middle size is worked by changing the gauge. Decreases are worked into the final pattern band, which was inspired by the crowns of traditional Fair Isle tams, working the shaping close to the top creates a slightly gathered effect. There will be plenty of the coloured yarn leftover to make a pompom, a cute addition if you can bear to cover up the crown pattern. The large stitch pattern is from the endlessly inspiring A Shetlander’s Fair Isle Graph Book.

Sheep Heid by Kate Davies

The (very quickly) world famous Sheep Heid by Kate Davies.

Kate says:

"Sheep Heid uses all 9 natural shades of Jamieson and Smith Shetland Supreme Jumper Weight, showcasing the variety of fleece colours in this marvelous yarn – just in time for Shetland Wool Week!

Horned rams appear atop the crown . . .

. . . while the brim features thirteen rather stolid-looking moorit sheep.

From start to finish, this hat was a complete joy both to design and make. Supreme jumper weight has to be the ultimate yarn for stranded knitting – one feels that the yarn just wants to be worked in this way!"

This kit contains pattern and yarn to knit Sheep Heid.

You will also need:

3mm (US 2-3) x 40cm circular needle

3mm (US 2-3) x 40cm DPN or 3mm (US 2-3) x 80cm circular needle

Cruden

£43.90

A traditional Fair Isle vest worked from the bottom up entirely in the round. The neck and armholes are steeked and the front shoulders are worked slightly longer than the back to both drop the back neckline for a better fit and to allow the stitch patterns to flow over the shoulder. Detailed instructions for finishing the steeks with crochet are provided. After cutting the steeks open stitches are picked up around the armholes and neck and ribbed bands are worked in one of the contrast colours for a slightly sporty detail. The colourwork is simple but effective alternating a smaller and larger motif, the larger of which is offset on alternate repeats.

This jumper is Ella's version of a traditional Shetland Yoke jumper, it uses raglan shaping before the yoke, a lower neckline and short row shaping to make it more modern. It is knit in the round from the bottom up and the yoke is also worked in the round.
