Heritage Hat by Mary Henderson

Designed by Mary Henderson, a regular contributor to The Knitter, this is a lovely tam that's easy to knit up having just four colours.  However, it will still look extremely impressive!  Designed to complement the Heritage Hap, this makes a really nice set.  This uses Jamieson and Smith Heritage yarn and takes 125g, the kit contains both the yarn and pattern.

A traditional Fair Isle vest worked from the bottom up entirely in the round. The neck and armholes are steeked and the front shoulders are worked slightly longer than the back to both drop the back neckline for a better fit and to allow the stitch patterns to flow over the shoulder. Detailed instructions for finishing the steeks with crochet are provided. After cutting the steeks open stitches are picked up around the armholes and neck and ribbed bands are worked in one of the contrast colours for a slightly sporty detail. The colourwork is simple but effective alternating a smaller and larger motif, the larger of which is offset on alternate repeats.

Wee Carson Kit by Ysolda Teague

The perfect introduction to traditional stranded colourwork techniques. The body and sleeves are worked upwards from the folded hems separately to the underarm and joined for the seamless raglan yoke. Shaping for well-padded bottoms is provided by way of a cute gathered detail at the back and the cuffs can be folded up to show the contrasting inner hem. The pointed pixie hood continues without interruption and is joined at the top with a 3 needle bind-off.

For the Fair-Isle band stitches are then picked up all the way around the front edge. The gap at the bottom is temporarily bridged with a short cast on and the Fair-Isle band is worked in the round with no shaping or purling. An easy I-cord bind-off gives a polished finish. The short steek is cut (not nearly as scary as it sounds!) to re-open the bottom edge and the zipper is installed. The jacket is completed with ribbon to neatly cover the cut edges and zipper tape.

Please note the sizing information below when choosing your size, size 1 is for the 3 month size, size 2 is the 6 month size etc..

Saudade Hat Kit by Ysolda Teague

PAPER PATTERN IN CURRENT KITS ARE SLIGHTLY DAMAGED SO PRICE REDUCED. The stitch patterns of this Fair Isle hat by Ysolda Teague make a sampler of traditional peerie and “X and O” motifs that’s a fun way to try out stranded colourwork or to play with colour shading if you’re more experienced. Three shades of grey and two of yellow are used to subtly shade the patterns. Which colours are contrasted and which blended, which are background and which are pattern, changes throughout to create a lively sense of movement. The pattern is charted to focus on a pattern being worked against a background, rather than on individual colours. Work the pattern colour so that the yarn is dominant and use the blank columns at the side of the chart to plan out your own colour scheme. Don’t be afraid to rip back if the colours aren’t working but remember that a certain level of discord makes the patterns come alive.

This kit will come in the colours shown in the photo's.
